Caersws today - tomorrow what ?
Cant say that today was the most disppointing game ever. For one thing expectations have gone down, for another everyone on the field was trying.
We had Marsh and Pommeyie up front and no attacking options left on the bench. Apparently everyone else has left - either temporarily or fod good - and we will ride out the season with the bare minimum to save costs.
Hard to argue with that. It would have been nice to have been able to call on (even from the bench) any one of Webb, Titch, Murphy, Rollo, Alex J - anyone of whom copuld potentially have offered something extra to finish off Caersws. But we've got what we've got. For some of the players named above and others who have left, we dont know if its personal circumstances, not putting in a proper shift, or mutual agreement to save costs at least in short term.
Conno's players left are full of running and endeavour, and enough skill to be top half of Cymru Alliance, but not really much more than that. Dont know what happens in the future.
We started last season with a team worse than the previous season (Rob, Bell , Jon Owen etc that previous season), and we started this season with a team worse than last season (although there were some excellent additions like Webb and Murphy). We seem now to have lost a number of these.
Almost certainly all down to money - and bottom line is (thanks to hard work of a few individuals) that we've still got a club AND memoroes. There are other clubs who had memories but went bust trying to live up to them. Others again who have chugged on creating no memories. We have the memories, the achievements , the history AND have pulled through as a club and #fegodwnnieto.
Had we been offered that in the year 2000 for the following two decades , we would have taken it. Thanks to all who have made it possible over the two decades and those keeping us afloat now.
Oh yes, as for the game - well Caersws were terrible. Think Junction, only worse. Their keeper made a couple of reasonable saves. They had one shot at goal all game (way over the bar). They scored when Rory sliced a ball accross his own goal area and a lone Sws striker (who happened to be standing there having a fag or something) rolled the ball into the empty net. Conno set up Marsh for our first goal, second was a header from a set piece and we hit the bar. Sws crowded their defence and there's only so much two strikers can do against a blue wall. That's it really - oh, and I think I got frostbite behind the goal watched by a few dozen in the bar above !!

Very true words Fred. Sadly Conno started with a bang, but his selections thereafter, whether down to money or whatever have been bizarre, and weve gone downhill a bit. I cant say we played particularly well today either.
For me today Stuart Carroll cemented my choice as player of the season.

Re: Caersws today - tomorrow what ?
Would that be 'player of half a season' (when did he join us)?

McGuiness signed Carroll But he hardly had any game time under him, Conno gave him a break.

Re: Caersws today - tomorrow what ?
Carroll has made the most appearances in all competitions of the 17/18 squad. He signed pre-season.
In terms of perceptions of the season being up and down - looking at opponents we have been very consistent.
We have played 11 teams home and away so far. In 8 of these we have had identical outcomes home and away. We have beaten Queens Park, Llandudno Junction, Flint and Caersws H & A. Drew against Caernarfon, Guilsfield and Penrhyncoch H & A and lost to Ruthin H & A.
The only exceptions being Holywell - drew away won at home, Porthmadog - drew away lost at home and Gresford - lost away then won at home.

Re: Caersws today - tomorrow what ?
Remember seeing Carroll playing against Nantwich in a Friendly, then he struggled to start in centre midfield coz McGuiness went with Jones, Bell, Downey and Rowlands, anyway.
We need to worry about replacing Brewie,Titch, Barrow, Webb and Bring a few more in too make the squad strong.

That in itself is a strange set of affairs - in that nearly all other teams do better at home than away, not mirror-image. Having said that I'm not sure the comparison stands up. Of the 4 teams we have beaten home & away, three are Junction, Queens Park and Sws - whom most teams have beaten home and away.
We do need to be realistic in our assesments. Unfortunately any such realism leads us to very mixed conclusions !
1) The season has been worse than anyone could have expected in results. Besides the top two or three clubs, the Cymru Alliance is the lowest level at which Rhyl have played in living memory. We have played in this league now for 6 seasons of the last 25. First time round we finished 3rd but were pre-occupied with the Cup and reached the final aginst Cardiff City. On the subsequent 4 seasons in the Cymru Alliance, we were either champions or second with a chance to win it until the final couple of games. Now we "hope" to be "top-6", and it can be argued that the "pride of north wales" are in fact the 4th best club in Denbighshire !. We wont get out of a situation until we face it - this is factually our worst season ever. And it cant all be Niall's fault. Yes, we had already lost the title by early September because of the cautious approach and all the draws (same with Wales at the World Cup). But under the new management, if you leave out the bottom 3 clubs whom everyone beats - we have under their leadership won 5, drawn 3 and lost 4 in the league (i.e. in the second tier). And now it seems that a number of our most gifted footballers have left. "It cant get any worse" someone said yesterday. Actually it could, nad that's the second reality.
2) Second reality is that it could be far far worse. We could have lost the club altogether. Clubs cant just live on reputations. With so few funds we could have gone the way of others and lost the club altogether. Thanks to massive efforts by a band of volunteers that hasnt happned and we should be eternally grateful and just remember #fegodwnnieto - we just dont yet know when !

Re: Caersws today - tomorrow what ?
Rubbish system to be playing in. Your home season shouldn't be over already. Ages to go in the real football season world. How on earth is the club supposed to survive without weeks/months of no income from games. Joke league. Off loading players to save money. Simple just going to mess up any consistency within the club. Fans voting with their feet. Shambles.
