Re: Holywell.

Tom was poor - same as he had been for us this season. Aaron played very well tho, best we’ve seen of him.

Wouldn’t write Hill-Dunt off just yet, still recovering from a bad injury. Great problem to have with 2 good goalkeepers

It would be nice to hear from some of the fans who only seem to post on here when we lose!I know its our first win in a while and a long way to go but i genuinely think there is a good team/squad starting to emerge. Not the
finished article but with a couple of good signings, injuries sorted and silly errors erased IMO this could be a very good team.

Ive already said it was a good win, but were still conceeding too many silly goals.

Tom didnt have his best game, and Im glad of that, but you dont judge a player on one game. I have Tom miles ahead of Culshaw.

Re: Holywell.

Been away for a fortnight !To be fair, I'm a nuisance with my posts whether we win, lose or draw !

Really got to nail the use of this word "positive". Being positive does not mean just saying the nicest things you can think of, and turning a blind eye to everything else. Being positive in the true sense of the word is a combination of realism and hope. Being realistic about whatever is the current situation, and yes trying to instil hope for the future and discussing how to bring that about.

Bottom line for hope is that, thanks to the tireless efforts of many individuals, we still have a club. During the "crash" we did not lose everything like others. The other basis for hope is that, in terms of north Wales, we are indeed a big club. Our history, our potential fan-base, our stadium and our hope for the future all dictate that.

The realism upon which positive discussion and action can be based though also includes the following. Until 12 months ago, every time we have been sent to Tier 2 for various reasons (Late application in 1992, license in 2011, and just bad playing record in 2016), on all these occasions we fully expected to bounce straight back to Tier 1. In 1992, we only finished third but did reach the Welsh Cup Final and took 2000 fans there, and won the league the following year. In 2011-13, we finished second twice before winning the league unbeaten all season. We had high hopes of winning the title last season, but finished 6th which was our worst ever position since WW2. We are currently in a worse league position still. Winning a game in extra time against the team 3rd from bottom after a string of losses cannot yet change all that.

I wasnt at Holywell, but reports do indeed say that we dominated but didnt take our chances. Doesnt that again show that those "unpositive" posters who went on in pre-season about the serious weakness of not having a prolific goalscorer were right to do so ? Were those "positive" posters in July who thought that there was not a problem "come back in september and you'll see" they said, were they right ?

So, is this being "negative" again ? Not at all, just a plea to base our hopes on reality. The league has obviously gone again for this season, but it is still worth trying to finish as high as possible as a statement f intent for next season and to attract the best players. Most of all though, lets base our hopes on what could really count and lift spirits - a great Cup run starting at Conwy. Lets not be negative talking it up (i.e. getting excuses in early) as a "difficult game". On every other occasion, we would go there expecting to win. Lets go there with that winning expectancy, and we probably will win if we do that. Then, unless we are unlucky to be drawn against one of the three or four moneybags clubs, we shouldnt be afraid of anyone. Put it this way, its easier for this Rhyl team to reach at least the semi-finals of the Welsh Cup than it was for Wales to reach the SF of Euros2016. This is the avenue open to us, lets do it, and base our hope on realism.
