Re: re saturdays cup game
Every now and then something special happens and supporters rightly get excited and today proved to be one of those moments. Enter one Joe Sullivan a young man who on this debut/showing in a white shirt has a very very bright future ahead of him. His display at times was quite effortless, not only did he bag a fine goal his energy saw him cover almost every blade of the Belle Vue grass. If I where the management a contract would be on offer asap. His display will give EMJ a massive headache, he simply has to play every game, this lad is a joy to watch and won todays MOM award by a country mile. Oh and the teams performance was good as well, we did enough to win quite easily and land ourselves in the hat for the next round.

Re: re saturdays cup game
That’s how we’ve set up most games this season is 3 at the back, id say 2 central midfielders who drive forward rather than 2 defensive midfielders.
Hassal at LWB is working in that formation seem to move to a back 4 in second half, Ben Nash reminds me a lot of Liam Benson in that role, Joe Sullivan looks very adaptable in the middle or out wide, I think his preferable
position is through the middle though.
Sullivan Pritch and Murphy good players to have when you’ve got KP who’s a bit of a Berbatov most games.
It’s also good to have 3 attacking threats in Worrall, Torrance and Chambers would like to see 2 up top with any of those three.
As I said I can’t complain with the formation hog the job done against a well organised outfit Caersws nice to see we didn’t underestimate them with them being top in the league below. I’m not surprised we went under the kosh when after they scored they went ‘ultra attacking’ hard not to be, wouldn’t say we got nervous seemed never in trouble.

Re: re saturdays cup game
Bit annoying to not have a game for two weeks now remarkable results going from 6 straight defeats to 5 wins in a row also.

Re: re saturdays cup game
Understand the point, but there was a MASSIVE difference when Chambers came on to give us a central striker. Until then we were so far back that we just werent getting offensive players into threatening positions.
If one sets up with three at the back and two midfielders in front of them and two wing-backs, then you must have a front three far enough forward with either the WBs getting up in support or one of the midfielders

Re: re saturdays cup game
In other games we have done, especially with cai on the pitch, think Culshaw has got more in him, Would like to see Hassall pushed up more so he doesn’t have to concentrate on defending as much as I’d say he is our best player, to me KP is a bit of a ‘luxury’ player would much rather see Chambers or Pritch come in for him.
Torrance seems to do well in the super sub role, nice to see Worrall knows where the goal is, think
we need a left sided wing back or left back.

Re: re saturdays cup game
Against most teams in this league, I reckon we could manage with a back 4, and still allow the FBs to get forward with a covering central midfielder and keeper as sweeper. Only seen 7 or 8 games this season, but this would be my first choice (only named those of whom I'm certain and left the rest blank, maybe some are in the current squad, maybe strengthening is needed ideally)
Rory
Cai-Peate-Fairhurst-LB
Cooke-Hassall
JoeSullivan-Worrall-Pritch-Murphy
(the other three buzzing around Worrall and inter-changing)
In fact only left one blank - either need a LB with Hassall further forward, or an extra creative midfielder. Many others like Nash, KP, Chambers, Dunt great to have in the squad.
In fact, in looking at it like this, there are only 3 major weaknesses in the squad -
1) Tactically, not enough ambition going forward, especially against weaker teams
2) Creative midfield general - could be Hassall ?
3) None of thos front 4 are 25-goal-a-season strikers. If we went up a level, we would ned to add a proven finisher

Re: re saturdays cup game
What did Crowther do wrong today to warrant Dunt returning in the next game.We should be building for the future and not going backwards with has beens

Re: re saturdays cup game
I hope Rory does start, just think management will go back to Dunt.
It would be an appalling decision to drop Nash
Rory, Cai, Nash, Hassall, Cook and Spud should start every game would like to see Joe Sullivan keep his place too.
None of the out and out strikers have really got back to back games so wouldn’t know how many they could actually score.
People go on about out and out strikers but no exact names. Did Caernarfon really have a stand out striker last season, seen people harp on about Jamie Breese yet I don’t think he got over 15 last season.
Scored 13 goals in last 3 games surely that’s enough to suggest there’s goals in the team

Re: re saturdays cup game
My 11 would be
Rory
Nash
Peate
Fez
Cai
Cook sitting on his own
Hassall
Pritch
Sullivan
Spud
Chambers
3 at the back works well for us allows cook to stay where he is and doesn’t need to come deep to receive the ball Nash can run with it and Fez also likes to go on a run with it too from the back. When attacking down either flank can adopt at back 4 if needed. Liam Smith also harsh to miss out in one of the centre back positions.
Also wouldn’t mind Nash at right back depending if Cai can play left back

Re: re saturdays cup game
To judge today’s issues going forward as problems is a bit harsh I think.
With 3 of our strikers unavailable it was always going to be a make shift front line.
After being baron in front of goal we’ve scored 19 in 5 so scoring isn’t an issue at the moment.
Rory didn’t do anything wrong yesterday but neither did Dunt in the previous 2 games to warrant losing his spot, so I’d presume he comes back in next game.
Playing with a back 3 allows you overloads all over the pitch to play out from the back against most teams who will play a 4231/451
