Planning for next season

I know we have one more match still to play but planning will be more than underway to go again for next season. As fans where do we feel we can do with strengthening? I was at Ruthin V Holyhead on Saturday and there was a few players who I think could add something to our team. Just wondering if anyone has thought similar of other teams’ players. Realistically too, where do we see ourselves in terms of being able to attract players to play for us?

I think most players would jump at the chance to play for us, financially are we the biggest paying team...? I wouldn’t think so I’d say we are 4th in the budget table.

Realistically I think we need;
Left back
CB
CM - aggressive
CF
RW

names of players I’d like....Llyr Morris, I think Tom Roberts of Ruthin is very good and has played for us before.
Jake Cook of Guilsfield has impressed me when I have watched him I haven’t seen a CB who I think would be better than what we have.

I agree that we are a big club at this level. There will be other clubs of an equal stature who will probably be looking at similar players to us like Llandudno, Colwyn Bay, etc.

In terms of player recruitment, I think a left back is a must. I like Hassall and he’s done brilliantly there but his future is in the middle for me, probably in the holding role. I’ve thought all season we have missed a centre mid that’s got that engine to add another dimension to our game. No discredit to the lads there now, they work hard for the team but I don’t think they play that way. Tomos Clarke for Holyhead would fit the bill perfectly imo. He got a hat trick on Saturday too so he’s definitely got the goalscoring ability. I’d add a striker to partner Molyneux but I think Torrence has the ability to be that strike partner.

I’ve seen a few players who could add something to our team, Ilan Hughes for Ruthin impressed me the other day too, Tom Roberts has always been a solid player at this level who can add something going forward and as I’ve already stated, Tomos Clarke I was impressed with also. Llyr Morris is a goalscorer but I don’t think he brings anything that we don’t already have in Molyneux.

I think if we can keep the rest of the squad as well as the young lads we have coming up through the ranks, we’ll have a solid outfit that will be a threat to any team at this level consistently throughout the season whether it’s a sunny Saturday in Rhyl or a wet Tuesday night in Buckley.

I've heard it said a couple of times now that Llŷr Morris "wouldnt add anything we havent already got". Well 20 goals a season + possibly a few more in a better team would be quite an addition !!May well be however that he is happy with what he has. There are players who seem to have the potential to do more, but seem happy with what they've got (Loggs was an example), maybe just have rounded lives !!!

Agree entirely re LB. Any chance we need look no further than Lockley ? He looked good when he cam on at Bangor. Personally, I'd favour also the option of a RB also. Flatter back 4 with a new holding midfielder, and Hassall as a creative midfielder in the centre. Then Cai further forward on the right and Spud on the left together with 2 strike partners a la Moran/Hunt. The four upfront and Hassall could interchange. Joe Sullivan would be a very capable deputy when Cai or Spud were out, and Pritch and Ross Stephens useful squad members.

My priorities then would be RB, holding MF and a striker. Aim then would be to trounce the opposition 2012-style, not "take points off the leading clubs"

btw no way are Llandudno and Colwyn Bay of an "equal stature" to us, tho other clubs may well have more cash. There is a history of players at Rhyl getting noticed

It’s easy to say that Morris would score them 20+ goals ioio but would he deliver for us when taken outside of his comfort zone? I’m not so sure. I’ve seen him on numerous occasions and while he does seem to deliver goals for Ruthin, I think he goes missing far too often. I understand your point about goals being the primary focus from a striker but I look at Molyneux and I feel he’s miles ahead with his overall play as well as the goal scoring (particularly in recent weeks).

While I also understand your point about the stature of Llandudno & Colwyn Bay in comparison with ourselves, they are likely to be thereabouts with us in the league and also will be looking at the same players I can imagine. That was more my point. We don’t want to sell ourselves as a stepping stone even though for some players it has been. I’m sure EMJ will have his ways and ideas of how to attract the right kind of players to us and I’d like to believe them ideas would be more of a factor than an extra £20.

Rhyl Observer, I’ve heard a few mentions of Dale Davies in the past on here without actually seeing him play. Certainly gives me an interest in going to watch a Corwen match sooner rather than later. Bit curious as to why it’s never worked out at a higher level for him though? Just not worked out or an underlying issue maybe...

According to the league website Dale hasn’t scored 9 goals for Corwen so If he’s not able to score goals in the league below I wouldn’t say stepping up is a good move.
