If you reckon we now have an equally good finisher in the team to play along side Titch & co, then that problem is solved. Even allowing for their being one less team in the league this season, no club has won the CA with a points total like that. Let's get real and count finishing top 3 as restoring pride. 2) The fact that Airbus were temporarily top of the league shows how weak the league is.They have a terrible defence and their GD is no better than that of Porthmadog in seventh place. Their defence is much worse than last year, and we beat them 4 times last year when we couldnt beat practically anyone else.Just really got to me the "Journal" headline that we'd caused a "massive upset" by beating Airbus at home - just shows how our expectations have fallen. We're better than that. She madde a couple of mistakes i.e. penalising and booking Tony Davies from a distance after showing no card for a bad Airbus tackle as we were threatening their area, but on the whole she was excellent. As for the game itself, it only really merits the plaudits given if our expectations are lowered to second-half Gresford level (Cofis put 6 past them yesterday). Shaky first 5 minutes, then the two well-taken goals in quick succession did a world of visible good for confidence and there followed 15 minutes of excellent football. Then we lost our way completely and were very poor last 20 minutes of first half.We showed however that we CAN do it. Airbus were good going forward (as shown by their excellent second-half goal when they pased their way through the entire Rhyl midfield and defence to score without our touching the ball). But they were terrible defensively as hsown by all the goals conceded this season. Their keeper told us that they got "battered" every week. All our chances should be seen in this context. Ironically we were much better second half and carved out half a dozen chances. But for the 80 minutes between the first two goals and Titch's extra time goal, all our finishing was woeful. It seems no-one noticed the wind behind us and practically every shot flew high over the bar - prompting one anxious shout "Mind my car" as one shot flew over into the Grange Rd car park ! To put it into perspective, Titch was head and shoulders above all the new additions to the squad as a footballer. What the 3 or 4 newcomers have done however is to add steel to the team and have given footballers like Titch more confidence - and that is a massive boost at this level. Well done Conno. The team have certainly boosted everyone's spirits. The problem will be how to keep it going. From where will the motivation come ? We are out of the running for the league. Not onle would we have to sin every game (18 consecutive) to the end of the season, but Caernarfon would also have to lose another 4 matches on top of that). Out of the proper Cup and the mini-Welsh Cup. It would just show how far we've sunk if we get excited about beating a "top-of-the-table" Airbus who had a defence as bad as that, or got exciting about beating Junction to progress in the Pointless Cup. Let's be realistic. It will have been a bitterly disappointing season (and was so before Conno took over). We are fighting now for respect and the hope of a top-3 finish by going on a big winning run which will set us up for next season.nondisclosed_email@example.com (ioio)Sun, 29 Oct 2017 21:06:57 +0000
